Buy Phase

What Is the Buy Phase?

The Buy Phase Screen

This is the third phase of your turn. In this phase, you can play Currency Cards and buy cards from the Market.

Buy Phase begins → Play Currency Cards → Buy the cards you want → Buy Phase ends

Playing Currency Cards

To play a Currency Card, drag it from your hand to the 'card play area' in front of you. (Or press the "Play All Cards" button to play all your Currency Cards automatically.) When you play a Currency Card, you gain as many Gems as the number shown on the icon in the card's 'instruction box'. (This is called the Currency Card's "Value".)

  • You don't have to play all of your Currency Cards. However, they are all discarded at the end of your turn, and you only gain Gems from the Currency Cards you played.

About Currency Cards

Anatomy of a Currency Card

Star CostWhen you play this Action Card upgraded, you spend the listed number of Wishing Stars.
• If you don't have enough Wishing Stars or Action Points, you can't play that Action Card.
• If the Star Cost shows X instead of a number, you can't use Wishing Stars on that card.
ValueWhen you play this card, you gain the listed number of Gems.
• If an extra effect is listed along with the Value, you gain the Gems and then resolve the extra effects in order from top to bottom.
CostWhen you buy this card from the Market, you spend the listed number of Gems.

Buying Cards

Once you've played as many Currency Cards as you want, you can buy 1 card of your choice from the Market. You buy cards using the Gems you've collected so far this turn.

Detailed Rules (Expand the toggle to view)
  • The number of Gems needed to buy a card is shown in its Cost (the hexagonal frame) in the bottom left corner.
  • You can buy a card whose Cost is equal to or less than the total of the Gems you gained this turn from card effects, Skills or other means, plus the Gems you just gained by playing Currency Cards.
  • When you buy a card, your Gems are reduced by that card's Cost.
  • Buying cards doesn't make your played Currency Cards disappear. They go to the Discard Pile and stay in your deck.
  • If a card's Cost is 0, you get it without spending any Gems. It only uses up one buy.

Buys

  • By default, you can buy 1 card each turn.
  • If you resolved an Extra Buy, +X Buy effect in the preceding Action Phase, you can buy X more cards.
  • Buying cards is optional. Even if you have several buys, you can buy just once or skip buying entirely.

About Purchased Cards

  • Unless instructed otherwise, cards you buy are placed in the 'card play area'.
  • Cards you just got (usually) can't be used right away. You have to draw them from your Draw Deck later before you can use them. For details, see the Deck (Card Piles) guide.

Market

A variety of cards are stocked in the Market, and during a match you get most of your cards here, by buying them or through other means. (Cards you get are added to your deck.)

Cards Sold in the Market

Essential Market Cards • Stone x 10 cards (Cost 0)
• Iron x 20 cards (Cost 3)
• Gold x 30 cards (Cost 6)
• Dagger x 7+3 cards (Cost 2/3)
• Longsword x 12+3 cards (Cost 5/6)
• Warhammer x 17+3 cards (Cost 8/9)

For Dagger, Longsword and Warhammer, the top 3 cards cost 1 Gem more. So if you want to buy them first, you'll pay a slightly higher price.
Neutral Market Cards • Neutral Market Cards 2 types x 6 cards

• 2 types are chosen at random from all Neutral Market Cards.
• You can see which cards were chosen in advance during 'Store Market Cards'.
• You can look up Neutral Market Cards in the
Card DB.
Your Market Cards • Your Market Cards 4 types x 6 cards

• Right before the match, during 'Store Market Cards', you choose 4 types from your character's card list.
Rival's Market Cards • Rival's Market Cards 4 types x 6 cards

• Right before the match, during 'Store Market Cards', 4 types are chosen from the character's card list.

Sold-Out Cards

Each type of card is stocked in limited numbers. Once all copies are taken, that card is 'sold out' and can no longer be obtained from the Market.

When a card sells out, 6 new cards are immediately stocked in its place. If a character's card sold out, a random card is picked from that character's cards. If a neutral card sold out, a random card is picked from the neutral cards.

TIP

  • Expensive cards are more powerful to match.
  • Every card in the Market is available to every Duelist. Along with the Essential, Neutral and your own Market Cards, you can also buy your Rival's Market Cards, so use them strategically.
  • Your own cards are usually designed to work a little better for you.
  • "Stone" and "Dagger" are inefficient cards, so in most situations you won't buy them directly.
  • If none of your Market Cards deal damage, in most situations you should plan to buy "Longsword" or "Warhammer".
